Winter Wonderland Quilt - part 2 design wall

Winter Wonderland
Quilt!

Do you have a design wall?
I hang my flannel design wall on a playroom wall near my sewing machine - it has a plastic grid on the opposite side
that shows through to help me keep on track.
I just hang it right over these photographs rather take them down when I need the wall for a project.
My husband's hobby is gardening, so I take pictures of some of his creations and hang them in our playroom!
He supports my hobbies and I support his.  I know every inch of the garden center at Home Depot and he's gone fabric shopping with me!

The design wall helps keep track of your progress and if a mistake has been made - better to catch it now!
Keeping some
tricky pieces in a baggie with a label as to what step it is helps too
I've reused them later on in my daughters lunch bag!  I wonder if her friends asked what kind of sandwich G/E/G is?
I  kept notes all over the pattern.  Most days I have about an hour or two to work on my projects - so mine are never "Quilt in a Day" invented by Eleanor Burns.  Having my left off notes and checked off completion makes it easier to find my place the next time I an hour to create.
Quilt in a Day and Eleanor BurnsShe's a lot of fun to watch on TV and took chain piecing to whole new level.  But the only time I can work on any project all day long is if it's one of these days and I can't and don't
want to get out any where!
I better get organized for a new project!  More snow is in the forecast maybe it will be enough to make it a sew day!   I love a good snow - sew day!

Winter Wonderland Quilt!

Winter Wonderland
Quilt
When I saw this pattern I immediately thought of my son because he attends West Virginia University.  This the campus on a lovely day BUT  this is what West Virginia in winter looks like and as it turns out, this is the last thing he wants to see in his quilt!  I asked him to be honest with me, no hard feelings - and it makes perfect sense that the boy is tired of very hard winters.
It's a good thing I fell in love with it!  It's hanging in my living room with matching pillows made from the left over fabric

and like colors in the dining room (I live in a cottage, so one space is near another!)
I love the lacy, frosty look of this hurricane candle holder - there is a large white candle inside and two grey taper's in my favorite silver candle holders
from my great grandmother, hmm, need a polish!  My mothers favorite vase sits near the door and I swap out "flowers" seasonally too
I found these beautiful birch branches at Crate and Barrel
It was a bit of a splurge but I wasn't finding them when I walked my dog through the woods I wasn't finding any on my own - I tried!  My splurge a previous winter were these candles I light above the fireplace
Winter has hit the east coast and my living room!  The name of the quilt is Cabin in the Woods
It's made with all batik fabrics - and I had to keep track of the differences with the help of baggies
because the colors were all so similar of whites and grey's.  It's only fabric, I can reuse the bags later!

Winter is out here and winter is in here!

Winter Wonderland

Winter is Here!
and so am I

I have been away from the blog for awhile - but I am back!  Although I never stop crafting for very long, I had to work with my daughter on the college hunt.
and her hunt is a bit different as she wants to be a fashion designer! Please visit my blog Buttoning Up a Fashion School with Mimi for more information on that journey!

It's a whole different ball game compared to regular college admissions.  We've done a ton of research and she's done a ton of work which as really paid off - she's gotten one acceptance!
Takes the world off her shoulders!

So now I can get back to my hobbies...
after I shovel some snow that is!
