Don't Drop that Block!

Creative Output
Don't discard that orphan quilt block!

My daughter, currently living in Arizona, ask for a new quilt from me.  Missing autumn colors, I thought The Tree of Life quilt block in fall colors would be perfect.  When I made this sample for her - she loved everything about it, except the cream background.

She reminded me that she isn't the neatest of people - to thy own self be true!  So I swapped it out for a wonderful blue batik watercolor fabric, perfect!  It looks like water!  How very perfect!
I liked so much, I am in the process of making one for myself!
I learned how much fabric to use for the background, so mine won't be scrappy in the background.

More on that when it's ready to be on display - I've made October my deadline!  But why waste the cream original block?  Up-cycle!
I have thermal quilted fabric (found in Nancy's Notions catalog) and turned the block into a hot mat and/or a oven mit.
But then I thought "why ruin this quilt block to a kitchen accident?"  So  I use it as a 'mug rug' in the TV room.
Plus it makes a good resting place for all the remotes!

And now for the input - Sunday evening cocktails!
I got a taste for a grapefruit soda - and decided to take it one better:

Grapefruit Gin and Tonic
Combine gin, pour in grapefruit juice, top of with tonic and a squeeze of a lime wedge

I added a lemon thyme sprig as a swizzle stick!

Pretty and tasty!

Pam
